Yeah, I’m that old. When you broke the rules in class you had to write “standards” that you wouldn’t do it again. As a rule breaker, you don’t have to write standards, but you’re shunned for not following the rules.
Every branding guru out there preaches the same best practices like its a fucking religion:
🔹 “Follow industry trends.”
🔹 “Stay professional.”
🔹 “Be consistent with your messaging.”
Okay, I’m cool with consistent, but that doesn’t require doing something every damn day. But let’s talk about best practices. Best practices keep you safe. And safe brands get ignored.
You’re ignored because those with deeper pockets buy your silence or pay to drown you out. Because they have more money, folx believe them when they call you an “outsider” for not following the rules.
