When You Have To Write A Press Release
Who do you send it to?
I am a fly by the seat of my pants writer, or at least I was until this most recent book, I’m Not Here To Fix My Face. This is the first time I’ve written an outline. Actually ChatGPT wrote it and I hated it, so I didn’t follow it. It was more of an outline of what not to write. That’s because I disagree with it’s bullshit approach to personal branding. But that’s beside the point. I want to send out a press release but I don’t even know if that’s a thing anymore.
In my old days of the restaurant and write-ups, I knew some folx that I could ask for help. Those connections have moved on and it would be shady to reach out after all these years. Even so it doesn’t answer my question of whether or not press releases are still relevant, especially for book releases.
So far I sent a copy to an acquaintance at Press Telegram. He did a story one me when I wrote my memoir, That Damn Girl Stuff. I also so sent a copy to six folx at L.A. Times and reminded them about a write up on Bigmista they featured. It used to be a free story. Now you have to be a subscriber to read it.
I’m having a hard time finding editors for Forbes, Entrepreneur, and a few others. That’s not gonna stop me though. As much as I love to talk, I am not a lime light person so I have to think differently about combining my personal brand with PR. Fuckity fuck fuck.
I still have a list from an acquaintance with a whole slew of emails but I’m pretty sure it’s outdated. Besides, he’s from the food industry.
If you have any suggestions, or just wanna check out my press release yourself, scroll down past the pic. If you think you “know a guy.” please share. If they reach out or publish something, I’ll send you a free signed copy of my book.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ghetto Country Brandmother® Phyllis Williams-Strawder Goes Against Marketing Yourself As A Personal Brand in New Book
Texas City, Texas — September 1, 2024 — Renowned personal branding strategist and coach, Phyllis Williams-Strawder, aka Ghetto Country Brandmother®, and author of Branding, Boundaries, & Bullshit is set to launch her groundbreaking new book, “I’m Not Here To Fix My Face: Positioning Your Personal Brand Ten Toes Down In A Branded House.” The book takes on the conventional crazy of personal branding, urging entrepreneurs to prioritize selfishness before selflessness, and substance over subterfuge.
In a world obsessed with self-promotion and hype yourself tactics, Williams-Strawder goes against the commoditizing of people. She takes the stance that personal branding ain’t personal, it’s business. Personal brands are the cornerstone of brand architecture to be used as an endorser brands, not a walking pitch deck. “I’m Not Here To Fix My Face” throws out the notion of fitting industry standards for the sake of “professionalism.” Instead, it goes all in on being a niche of one to grow, scale, and expand a business.
The book focuses on practical strategies for building a younique personal brand that includes:
- Boundary reinforcement: Protecting personal life from the demands of personal branding.
- Broadcasting an amplified core message: Clearly communicating the past, present, and future of the business
- Bridging the gap between the audience and the offer: Effectively incorporating a promise the brand can stay dedicated to.
Williams-Strawder’s no-bullshit approach and two decades of experience make “I’m Not Here To Fix My Face” a must-read for entrepreneurs tired of taking personal branding built on the back of climbing the corporate ladder.
